Draw secures finals berth

THE Lowood Stags reserve grade side have all but booked their spot in the finals after a gutsy 26-all draw against Brothers at Brothers.

After the Stags failed to secure their final spot last week against the fifth placed Fassifern going down 46-14, the draw this week should see the Stags sneak into the finals with for and against.

The Stags first half saw a completion rate of only 60 per cent, with 20 missed tackles, which explained why they were down 18-4 at half-time.

The Stags grinded their way back into the game, reversing their first half stats, to a completion rate of 90 per cent, with only three missed tackles.

Brutal hits in defence and powerful attacking raids saw the Stags run over the top of their rivals.

A late field goal attempt to claim the win went slightly astray but the Stags were more than happy with the drawn, considering the half-time circumstance.

The second half saw the Stags work well as a team and coach John Harrison said, “the second half we finally showed how well we can play. That was our potential on display”.

“We string that together for two halves and we'll be hard to beat,” he said.

The Stags next game is Goodna at Goodna next Sunday at 1.30pm.

The Stags C grade side were narrowly beaten by Swifts on Friday night 24-12.

The Stags started the first half well taking a 12-8 lead to the break but unfortunately gave away easy field position to the Bluebirds who took full advantage, taking the two points.

It was a great team effort in an entertaining game of footy.

C Grade's last game of the year is next Friday night at Laidley v Goodna at 7pm.
