Cricket season looms

WITH winter almost finished it is now time to start preparing for the cricket season.

The Lockyer Cricket Association has scheduled its AGM for August 30 at 7pm at the Leagues Club in Gatton.

One club who will be looking for a big season is Helidon Cricket Club.

After struggling in A Grade the club moved back to Reserve Grade last season and won the premiership.

Club spokesperson, Mark Ashley, said it was a fantastic effort from the club.

“Helidon is very keen to nominate an A Grade side this season but we are two or three players short of doing that,” he said.

“We have had a couple of our quality players leave for various reasons and at the moment we just don't have the depth or experience to nominate an A Grade side.”

After winning a premiership in Reserve Grade Mr Ashley believes the club is now in a position to move back up to the top grade.

“We are hoping to grab two or three players from somewhere capable of playing A Grade so we could be competitive in the division.

“Our sign on day is at the Helidon Cricket Grounds on Sunday, September 12 from about 10am onwards. Anyone interested could also contact our president on 0414 492 545.”
