HELIDON resident Ray Grams says a proposed truck stop and service centre at Helidon on the Warrego Highway has been held up by the Main Roads Department which has said there isn't enough space for an acceleration and deceleration in and out of the facilities.
Current land owner Mr Grams argued that trucks were stopping to use the current facilities or nearby park as a rest stop anyway and the centre would mean improved safety for heavy vehicles travelling on the highway needed to use a rest stop.
Mr Grams said there was no dedicated truck stop from Toowoomba to Brisbane and the proposed “Lockyer Valley Service Centre” would be well used if it got the go-ahead.
