WITHCOTT has taken out the ‘Bush Spirit' award in this year's South-east Queensland Tidy Towns Awards.
LVRC councillor Janice Holstein was on hand at the presentation at Strathpine to accept the award on behalf of the Withcott community.
Withcott received the award for the collaborative community-approach to minimise litter in the district through the volunteer-led Withcott Litter Patrol group as well as the state school.
“The award encapsulates the great community spirit and involvement which makes Withcott such a great place to be part of,” Cr Holstein said
The award for Withcott was also given for the community involvement and cooperation with Council and Main Roads to seek a good outcome on the traffic safety issues at Withcott on the Warrego Highway.
The LVRC also received a ‘judges commendation' award for the new Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre project at Lake Apex.
The award recognises the significance of the project and the way in which the project fits with the surrounding natural environment.
Keep Australia Beautiful has been encouraging people all around Australia to care for their local environment for over 30 years through award programs such as Tidy Towns.
