HERE are the Laidley Football results for the past weekend.
U8: Jaguars took on the Rockville Bombers at home and after an even half both teams had scored a goal apiece with Laidley's coming through James Woodall. Jaguars kept the pressure on and with three minutes to go Blake McKinley scored. Final score 2-1 to Laidley.
U9: Tigers played Prep Wilson in Laidley. In a close game, the first half Laidley played extremely well in both attack and defence. All players appeared well rested after the holidays and were full of running. A very pleasing result saw Laidley run out 2-1 winners. Goals scored by Noah Davidson. Great enthusiasm shown by Abby Parker.
U9: Cheetahs returned from the holidays to play the Willowburn Nighthawks. The score stayed close for a majority of the game and close to full time the cheetah's couldn't keep out the Nighthawks allowing the Nighthawks 4-3 win. Joseph Clough and Andrew Thomson scored goals for the Cheetah's, Liam Hatcher and Kyan Salter both worked hard in defence putting pressure on players.
U11: Cougars played a tough match against West Wanderer Warlocks. The match was hard fought for its entirety and all players had a job to do. Jacob Gibson scored two goals and played a highly skilful match. Samson Kleindienst and Aaron Screech both played very well in the position of goalie and denied many attempts at goal by West Wanderers. Cougars won 2 -1.
U15: Lions took on Willowburn at Laidley on Saturday and managed to secure a 3-0 win. After leading 1-0 at half time thanks to a great individual goal by Jeremy Vejle, Bryce Vale scored twice in the second half to complete the score line. Though rusty at times the side played well, with some good play from Connar McKinney, Ebony Baker and Kara Barakin. In the end we did enough to win, thus maintaining an undefeated status.
U16: Wildcats travelled to Wanderers on Saturday afternoon to take on the locals and picked up from where they left off before the holiday break. Laidley applied all the early pressure and it wasn't long before Katie Lencz put them ahead. Katie added another and with Tiffany Waller adding one Laidley had a three nil lead at the break. Wanderers came back hard after the break with the home side scoring two quick goals and looked to have the Laidley side in some trouble. However Laidley held firm and with goals coming from Teaghan Gray and Katie Lenz grabbing a hatrick they run out winners 5-2.
Seniors
Colts: Warwick came out on fire against the Colts early on and they were dominating possession and field position. Early chances were stopped by the Laidley defence; however Warwick were able to score three goals in the first twenty minutes through some good first touches. Warwick displayed that they wanted the ball more than Laidley and continued to cause problems in the midfield and up front. To Laidley's credit they did manage to stem the flow of the game and created some opportunities of their own just in the last twenty minutes of the first half. The second half proved to be a tighter affair and both teams had opportunities to score without success. Midway through the second half Warwick scored another goal to seal the win. David Marsden and Jack Stokes had outstanding games for Laidley trying hard all night.
Women: were on the road with the game being played in Dalby. In what was expected to be an even contest, both sides took turns at defending and launching attacks with neither side able to take an early advantage. After some concerted efforts on goal Rachael Tilley put the Laidley side ahead just before half time. Peta Green was a solid as a rock in defence and Milly Duggan's never say die attitude was greatly appreciated by all. The win see's Laidley still on top of the points table.
Men: side took on the top of the table Highfields at Rockville on Sunday. The Highfields team has had the wood on Laidley in their latest match ups so a tough game was expected. The Highfields team had the first use of a steady breeze and dominated the first half without being able to get on the score sheet. Laidley defended well with top efforts by TJ McGoldrick and Blair Goodwin's return to keeper keeping them in the game. Laidley came out a vastly improved side in the second half and put the pressure on early and was rewarded when Shaun Scheiwe guided the ball home from close range. Ryan Barnwell had a chance to put the Laidley team further ahead but steered a penalty wide of the mark. Laidley coming away with a gutsy 1-0 win.
