WEST Moreton Anglican College has now incorporated a Respect and Responsibility Program from Prep to Year 12 which deals proactively in reducing the incidence of negative interactions and bullying behaviour.
The program is a result of review undertaken in 2006 and has been implemented in all three subschools.
The College’s approach to student management is based upon the right of each individual to be treated with respect.
Three key elements underpin this approach:
♦ All participants in the process have rights
♦All participants work within negotiated rules
♦All participants adopt a set of responsibilities that lead to self control and accountability.
The program’s design:
♦Clearly articulates behavioural expectations required of students.
♦Provides opportunities for explicitly teaching appropriate social skills to students.
♦Focuses on proactive preventative processes rather than reactive strategies.
♦Provides various opportunities to reward students who consistently maintain a satisfactory and higher.
♦Clearly articulates consequences for inappropriate behaviour.
Bullying is not just about reacting to situations.
