GATTON’S Bottom Dweller’s Juniors are showing some of us seniors the way to fish.
On the Gold Coast waterways, Patrick Webster weighed in a nice feed of Whiting up to 265grms and Bream weighing 360grms and this is good work as Patrick is usually a soft plastic fisherman which makes catches of Whiting hard work.
In Cooktown, North Queensland young Jack Ferdinand produced a fine 1.31kg Coral Trout and his brother Damon with a 964grm Coral Trout. Well done guys.
On the freshwater fishing front, two local competition Bass fisherman, Gavin Sticklen and Aaron Mogg ventured south to Lake St Clair in NSW to fish the ABT tournament and this was a first for Gavin as this was his first as a “Boater” .
The fishing was tough due to extremely low water levels however both Aaron and Gavin faired well and are eagerly looking forward to the next round up here in the Sunshine State.
Around the grounds
This weekend’s fishing was uncomfortable due to rain, wind and the threat of tsunamis so there are very few reports however here are the reports at hand.
Brisbane River around its lower reaches has been producing School Jew and Squire in the usual spots of the deep holes and sunken structures.
Mud Crabs are turning up along the banks and creeks along all the shores, north and south.
At Jumpinpin, Sand Whiting and Bream are a popular catch along Golden Bank and the general Crusoe Island area as well as around Tipplers Passage and the Aldershots.
Whiting and Bream have also been caught by land based anglers along the foreshores of Jacobs Well and Cabbage Tree.
At the Broadwater all the usual spots have been fishing ok however the fish aren’t monsters.
Around the Wavebreak Island area and the drop offs along the inside of South Stradbroke Island have also been fishing well.
Spanish Mackerel have been the talk of the town at Mermaid Reef if and when the weather lets you out there but there have been some good quality fish taken.
Please take extreme care on the seaway in this unpredictable weather as this is no playground and situations can turn nasty in an instant.
Good luck to the club fishos chasing Barra up at Awoonga this week.
