Stags turn into Diggers

TWO Lowood Stags players, Alex Profke and Nathan Deane, have been selected to play in the under 16 Diggers team for 2010.

The boys were selected in a 37 men squad at the end of the 2009 season and have made the final cut of 25 players that will go on to represent Ipswich in its bid to win The Cyril Connell Cup.

The Cyril Connell Cup is contested by Queensland’s best under 16 players and it is a great achievement by Alex and Nathan to make the side, club president Glen Torpy said.

“They have been training hard since the end of last season while everyone else has been relaxing and are currently training four times a week.”

The first competition game will be against Souths Logan this Friday night the at Brandon Park Acacia Ridge with kick-off at 7pm.

“The club is proud of their efforts and wish them the best of luck for the competition,” Mr Torpy said.

In other news the Stags had their sign-on day Sunday and signed a record number of players for the 2010 season with more than 42 new players signing on with the club. Anyone who missed the sign-on day can still join at training this Thursday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
