THE Brisbane Valley Sailing Club hosted its annual winter sailing marathon at it club facility on Lake Wivenhoe over the Queen's Birthday long weekend.
Due to the recent rains and rising water levels, the marathon event was well supported by visiting sailors and clubs.
This marathon weekend was the biggest regatta and fleet turnout at the club and Lake Wivenhoe for many years with a wide range of catamarans, trimarans, monohulls and trailer sailers competing.
Club sailors travelled to the event from as far as Rockhampton in the north and Ballina in NSW.
The dam lived up to its reputation and provided sailors with the full range of weather conditions to test their skills, including an unexpected early morning storm front on the marathon race day.
The event showcased Lake Wivenhoe and the Brisbane Valley region to all competitors and visitors to the event.
