Assailant stabs man in the back

POLICE are appealing for public assistance following the unlawful wounding of a man in Goodna overnight.

Initial investigations indicate the man was walking along the footpath of a St Ives shopping Centre on Smith St when a man walking towards him produced a knife and stabbed him in the back.

The offender ran off and the victim sought help from the staff inside the shopping centre.

The 35-year-old man received serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.

Police are searching for a man described as being of Aboriginal appearance with a thin build aged in his 40s.
It is believed the men are not known to each other.
