Lockyer regains power in health
POWER in the decision making process is being handed back to regional hospitals with the appointment of a new chief executive to the West Moreton Hospital and Health Service.
Speaking at the Gatton Health Service this week new chief executive Lesley Dwyer said she would be visiting all health services in the region to identify and prioritise resourcing for not only the Gatton health service, but other regional hospitals and health services.
"It's important to me that I spend a fair amount of time listening," Ms Dwyer said.
"I'll know I've been successful if the community is able to be confident in the health services provided in the community."
Ms Dwyer said it was important to identify any duplication of health services provided in the community and gain an understanding of an overall approach to health care, with the involvement of other health professionals in identifying local issues.
The appointment of Ms Dwyer enables the transfer of a centralised ruling on health back to the regions, similar to the hospital boards of the past.
