THEY started with "what the", they ended with "oh yeah". That was how Ladies Football League founder Tala Schultz described the reaction of fans at Ipswich's first ladies gridiron game on Friday night.

Fifty ladies took to North Ipswich Reserve as players from the Logan Lightning, Gold Coast Wild Angels, Western Miners and Brisbane Thunder formed two teams for the second exhibition game of newly formed LFL.

The ladies will play one more game at Thistles Soccer Club in Brisbane on July 21 before the inaugural eight-week season begins on August 4 at Coorparoo.

By that time the Sunshine Coast Black Diamonds also will be on board, as will ground commentator "Robbo the Yobbo", who will put an Aussie spin on the American game.

Ms Schultz said she was blown away by the quality of the game and couldn't wait for the season to begin.

The only sour note from the runaway success of the new league is that Ms Schultz, aka X-Girl, will miss the inaugural season as she recovers from a knee reconstruction.
