THE South Burnett art scene had better watch out.

Since Tuesday, a group of children from Murgon and Cherbourg have been learning the techniques of three-dimensional art.

They have been taking lessons from Bundaberg contemporary indigenous artist Roger "Bushfire" Saunders.

The program has been running at the South Burnett PCYC and will run for four weeks.

At the end of the program, the students will put on an exhibition for the public to enjoy.

The style of art taught by Mr Saunders features the traditional indigenous dots, and when special glasses are donned, the artwork appears in 3D.

Mr Saunders discovered the style of art while he was preparing paintings for an exhibition.

He said he thought it was a great way to get his grandchildren away from the computer.

"I developed a program using five colours and when the grandkids took their art to school for show and tell, the school called me up to see if I could run a program for them," he said.

"And now I do these 3D art programs all over Australia."

Mr Saunders said the local children had been very interested in the process, and proud of their work.

"I love doing these programs because the looks on their faces are worth it," he said.

"And I've been working closely with the Queensland Police Service and the PCYC to provide this great outlet for the kids' talent."

Acting PCYC manager Jaime Hastie said the program was also a great way for young kids to engage with adults.

"The aim of the program is to build better relationships between parents and children and to build better dialogue between them," he said.

"And two elders will be attending from Cherbourg, so it will also build a greater respect for older community members in the kids and vice versa."

The program run by the PCYC is funded by the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs.
