Fatal crash on the Warrego

A 65-year-old woman died after her blue Yamaha Virago motorcycle collided with a blue Ford Falcon station wagon on the Warrego Highway near Withcott on Friday.

The motorcyclist had been travelling east to Bundamba near Ipswich after visiting her elderly mother in Toowoomba.

The single occupant of the station wagon received a minor head injury and was transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital.

The driver, 47, had exited the Murphys Creek Road intersection and drove across the eastbound lanes of the highway, intending to travel towards Toowoomba.

According to witnesses, the woman's bike slammed into the side of the car bonnet and her body landed about five metres away.

Police said there were no motorcycle skid marks and it was unknown why the driver did not see the motorcyclist.

Despite CPR efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at 10.25am.

She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Station Officer, Shane Rankine, of Toowoomba QFS said emergency services were called to the scene around 9.45am.

He said the cause of the crash is unknown at this stage and is being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit.

Three people have died at the intersection this year.
