Cahill sees red on final day

A FRUSTRATING English Premier League season for Tim Cahill has ended in controversy with the Socceroo star sent off after Everton's 3-1 home win against Newcastle.

As soon as the final whistle blew, Cahill, who had come on as a substitute late in then second half, walked over to Yohan Cabaye and put his left hand around the Newcastle defender's throat.

Two of Cabaye's teammates rushed over and dragged an incensed Cahill away from the Frenchman.

Cahill appeared keen to take the matter further, gesturing to Cabaye to meet him outside.

The situation may have resulted from an incident in the first half when Cabaye angered Everton fans by pushing a ball boy aside while retrieving the ball.

The Frenchman apologised to the boy during the halftime break
