$665,102 for NBN training in Lockyer

Acting Minister for Broadband, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Kim Carr, and Labor Senator for Queensland, Mark Furner, today announced that the local community of Lockyer Valley will be able to get free expert advice on embracing the opportunities of the National Broadband Network (NBN), thanks to a new Gillard Government training program.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council will receive $400,102 to operate a digital hub and HB Recruitment and Training will receive $265,000 for a digital enterprise. The Digital Hub and Enterprise will deliver training to the local community, including businesses, to help them take advantage of the NBN.

"Every Australian will have access to the NBN's fast, affordable and reliable broadband. Therefore, it is essential programs like this are available so that everyone can learn about and embrace the online opportunities that are possible through the NBN," Senator Furner said.

"The free training gives local people access to expert advice in understanding the possibilities of the NBN, while helping businesses create the jobs of the future and compete nationally and globally. I encourage everyone to take up this opportunity."

"The community will benefit immensely from the Digital Hub as the program will provide training and assistance to improve online engagement and digital literacy," said Mayor Steve Jones.

"Utilising new technology will allow businesses to make improvements to their productivity," said Ms Jill Keen, Training Manager for HB Recruitment and Training.

Senator Carr said, "By mid-2015 construction of the NBN fibre network will have commenced, or will be complete, to approximately 3,600 premises across the Lockyer Valley area."
